Trainpics: KBS 970 - Immenstadt - Hergatz

The Immenstadt - Hergatz section of the "Allgäubahn" surely is one of the most beautiful lines in the Allgäu. After leaving Immenstadt station the tracks run along the Alpsee for a few kilometres, allowing a beautiful view on the lake and the mountains, including the Grünten, which can be seen in the East. In Oberstaufen, where the only tunnel of the Allgäubahn is passed, the line turns North, snaking through the beautifully quiet Thalhofen-valley. In Harbatshofen the line reaches its highest point, from there it's downhill again. Following a westerly direction, some large curves have to be passed to get to Röthenbach and Hergatz, where the Allgäubahn meets the line from Memmingen. South of Hergatz, both lines continue to Lindau.
